Our senior adult community enjoys a robust mix of learning, social activity and travel. The starting point is Sunday School. Dive in and find the class that’s right for you. Guests are invited to visit numerous classes until you find just the right fit.

Sunday School Class Suggestions

Cord of Three

Room 3308

Adults, mainly in their 60s and 70s, with a vision for developing caring relationships, participating in stimulating Bible study and lively discussion. 

Women’s Bible Class

Room 3306

A class for women, married or single, who want to establish relationships to support each other and study the Bible as it applies to everyday life.

BEST

Room 3211 | Zoom option

Adults in their 60s and 70s. BEST stands for Boomers Encouraging and Studying Together. Many have retired and remain fully engaged in church and community.

Koinonia

Room 3201 | Zoom option

An in-depth study of the books of the Bible, typically alternating between the Old and New Testament. Teacher Joe Haag selects a commentary to accompany each book studied, adding theological, historical and cultural context along the way.

Whosoever Wilshire

Room 3105

Couples and singles in their 70s and 80s with diverse life experiences.

Compass Class

Room 3103 | Zoom

Adults ranging in age from 70s to 80s. Enjoy lively discussion on almost every issue. A mix of Bible study and topical studies.

Open Bible

Room 1205-L

Adults in their 70s to 90s. Lessons based on the books of the Bible and Bible commentary lead to spirited group discussion.

Discovery

Parlor | Facebook

This intergenerational class, though predominantly senior adults, is an easy entry point for those new to Wilshire or to adult Sunday School. Taught by Mark Wingfield, former associate pastor. Discovery Class is livestreamed in its Facebook group, “Wilshire Discovery Class.”

Intergenerational. Engages with Scripture in a broad and holistic way.

Wilshire Adventurers

This special fellowship group for anyone 60 and above offers at least one activity every month, ranging from game days to guest speakers to day trips to big travel trips.

Lunch & Learn

Join us every Wednesday during the school year for lunch and Bible study led by a Wilshire minister. Lunch & Learn starts at 11:30 a.m. in Community Hall. Meal cost is $10.

Knit Unto Others

Do you like to knit? Bring your current knitting projects or help others in the group make prayer shawls for those in need at this weekly group session on Thursdays. All are welcome. 

New Song Community Choir 

New Song is a senior adult community choir that rehearses in Wilshire’s Choral Hall each Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. The choir includes folks from many different churches all gathering to enjoy a great time in music and service. New Song sings in the community about once a month and occasionally sings in worship at Wilshire.

Computer Classes

Do you struggle with working your computer? Do you want to learn how to use basic Microsoft Office applications? Or do you have a smartphone (iPhone, Android, Google) and want to know how to better use it? Wilshire member Max Post leads classes for six weeks each semester. These are free classes that meet during the day. Contact Max.

For guests & new members:

Visit us at the Wilshire Welcome desk located in James Gallery prior to the 9:45 a.m. Sunday School hour. A Wilshire member will be happy to talk to you about class options and locations.

The monthly Wilshire Welcome class helps guests and new members quickly learn what Wilshire is all about. Topics include our philosophy of worship, Bible study options on Sunday mornings and during the week, mission and advocacy partners and ways Wilshire serves in the community and beyond. Time with Tim is a chance for guests and new members to meet and talk with Senior Pastor Timothy Peoples. These informal sessions are held about once a month, usually during Sunday School. Contact: Carolyn Murray at cmurray@wilshirebc.org.
