One service May 1 for George’s final sermon as senior pastor.
Wilshire will hold one worship service, at 11 a.m., on Sunday, May 1, as George Mason preaches for the final time as senior pastor before retiring from the role. The service will include a special time of recognition for George. George and Kim’s adult children, grandchildren and other family members will be on hand for the service. Sunday School will be held at 10 a.m. as usual.
As announced in January, George will remain senior pastor until Aug. 31. Sunday, Aug. 28, will bring another opportunity to recognize George in worship and to celebrate his ministry in special events outside the worship hour.
George says, “The clock is winding down on my preaching ministry at Wilshire. The rhythm of my week and my soul has been tied to the Sunday sermon for most of my adult life. After about 1,400 sermons, someone else’s voice soon will begin tuning itself to your ears as you tune your ears to the frequency of the new pastor’s voice. It’s been the honor of my life to stand before you and behind the sacred desk all these years. I am trying to focus on what remains, both in the sense of what is left and what lasts. It helps me to think of this time of transitioning as repositioning. Let’s pray for one another that grace and gratitude rule our hearts.”
