Worship
While we are about more than what happens in the Sanctuary on Sunday mornings, worship remains central to the life of faith and to what it means to “be church.”
We gather both in person and virtually each week to pause and turn our attention to God with the hopeful expectation of encountering God’s holy presence. We sing and pray. We give voice to what God is doing in our lives and in the world, and we respond to God as we feel led.

If you’re planning a visit, you may have some questions. Hopefully we have some answers on our Visit page.
Worship style
Worship at Wilshire could be described as “traditional,” in that we sing hymns, we have a choir and pipe organ and we don’t have a screen in the Sanctuary. But that doesn’t mean it’s all classical music or overly formal.
You might hear songs with an acoustic vibe—and some of them might not even be overtly sacred or religious. And even with hymns, we’re constantly looking for new ones (yes, there are new hymns!) to mix in with the timeless favorites.
We follow the liturgical calendar, which gives our worship structure and logic as we follow the seasons of the church year.
Other helpful information
Communion
All followers of Christ are invited to partake of the Lord’s Supper, whether you are a Wilshire member or not.
Children in Worship
Children are a vital part of any faith community, and that is certainly true at Wilshire!
Wiggles and noises do not bother us. We know children learn to worship by watching others, so at Wilshire, kindergarteners and above attend worship with their parents. Children’s Worship Folders are provided at the entrances into the Sanctuary, with activities to enrich the child’s worship experience.
Childcare is available for infants and toddlers where they can safely play under the supervision of loving, trained caregivers who have completed safety training and background checks.
Weapons Policy
In order to provide a welcoming environment and to maintain the spirit of the church as a place of worship and reverence, Wilshire has adopted the following policy regarding weapons on church property: “With the exception of uniformed security personnel retained by Wilshire to provide security services, entry on the property by any person with any handgun or other weapon, regardless of government-issued license or permit, is forbidden.”
