Katie Murray co-authors book based on Wilshire experience.
Wilshire member and former staffer Katie Murray has co-authored a new book on Christian advocacy. The Mission of Advocacy: a Toolkit for Congregations is based largely on Katie’s work as Wilshire’s Christian advocacy specialist from 2014 to 2017.
Katie’s position at Wilshire was partially funded by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship to help answer the question: What can advocacy look like in a local church context? The book, co-authored with Stephen Reeves, CBF’s associate coordinator of partnerships and advocacy, is the result of that experience.
According to the publisher, the book “offers concrete examples and tips from veteran advocates for leading a church or nonprofit to deeper engagement in advocacy and public witness.”
Katie says, “I am excited for Wilshire to continue seeing the fruits of this collaboration with CBF that not only shaped our church’s understanding of advocacy as it pertains to mission, but now through this book, will allow sister congregations to explore what this means for their witness in the world.”
The book is published by Good Faith Media and is available at goodfaithmedia.org/bookstore and as an e-book at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Katie continues, “Without Wilshire’s desire to continue learning and growing as a congregation, this book would not have been possible. I remain grateful for our congregation’s faithful commitment to being continually shaped by the Spirit of Jesus Christ.”
