Minister to Preschoolers Joan Hammons will be honored during worship today as she retires from Wilshire’s staff. Joan’s husband, David, will also be recognized as he departs from his role on Wilshire’s video team. A reception will be held for Joan and David in James Gallery after the service.
“It’s been a delight to be preschool minister here these past 16 years,” Joan said. “I’ve enjoyed working with everyone — teachers, deacons, parents, childcare workers and especially the preschoolers. I’m always amazed when I look up at the Youth Choir and see so many who I knew first as preschoolers. I will fondly remember you all.”
Since 2010 David has worked to record and livestream worship and other events, and has lent his skills to countless other video projects.
David said, “The staff and congregation have given tremendous support and encouragement to the video ministry all along the way. Many have worked as volunteers, including some youth. I have enjoyed meeting new people this way over the years and will miss them very much. Wherever I am on Sundays going forward I will probably be wondering how the livestream is going at Wilshire. But I leave knowing it is in the good hands of the dedicated team now in place.”
