Full name: Terry Lyn McCullough
Hometown: Austin
Present city: Dallas
Education: Baylor University and the University of Texas
Profession: Tennis professional for 32 years; retired in 2023

Tell us about your family.
I moved to Dallas in 1993 after I fell in love with my husband, Michael, and we married in 1995. We have three children: Mac, who is 29 and married to Maura; Cyrus, 27; and Maggie, 24.

How about your work or volunteer life?
I taught tennis at Dallas Country Club for 30 years and retired in 2023. I especially loved teaching juniors and beginners! I spend a lot of time volunteering at The Men of Nehemiah as their garden coordinator. The organization helps men rebuild their lives and relationships after addiction and incarceration. The garden has nine raised beds, four in ground rows, a pollinator bed and a fruit orchard! They have a beautiful all-city worship every Tuesday night if anyone would like to join us and learn about the program. Everyone is welcome!

Any favorite hobbies?
Fishing, gardening, reading and of course tennis and pickleball!

What are your favorite places to travel?
When I’m not in the garden or on the courts you’ll find us in East Texas fishing or in the Hill Country looking at wildlife — or on special occasions in St. John watching sunsets!

What brought you to Wilshire and when?
Michael and I began visiting Wilshire several years ago, but just joined last November. I found myself with some deep church wounds six years ago, and I had lost interest in being in an organized congregation until we tried Wilshire. The tears flowed and my heart softened. It was okay to be wounded, scared and often confused! I will be forever grateful for the warm welcome and acceptance from this dear community.

Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
With our kids all in different cities, we are in a new phase of life and want to plug into the Wilshire activities. Michael loves teaching, and I hope to work with the kids so I can play games and be silly!

What’s something interesting most people would not know about you?
If I could have a fantasy job, I would want to conduct an orchestra. I love music very much. I’m obsessed with my cat, Sunshine Ginger Rogers McCullough.

What adjectives best describe you?
My top spiritual gift is hospitality, so I look forward to entertaining all my new wonderful Wilshire friends!
