I Am Wilshire: Gil Herrick
Hometown: Dallas (Richardson High School)
Education: Austin College
Profession: Investment Advisor
Present city: I work in Dallas and live in Frisco
Tell us about your family. I’ve been married to Emily since 1993 and we have two adult children, Paige, 26, and Ethan, 24.
Tell us about your work or volunteering. I manage an investment advisory office for the independent channel of Hilltop Securities. Since the kids are grown my volunteer work has diminished. I look forward to being more active in the church when we move back into Dallas.
What are your favorite hobbies? I play tennis, read and love soccer
Where is your favorite place to travel? Soon I’m heading to Big Bend for time under the stars.
What brought you to Wilshire and when? We were members of Wilshire in the 1990s when we were newlyweds and had Paige. George baptized me and dedicated Paige. After moving to Frisco we changed churches. George was always our theologian and we really missed the spirit of Wilshire, so we’re back! We truly wanted to be members of a church where ALL means ALL!
Where are you engaged in Wilshire? We are members of the Journey Class.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire? How easily we fit back in after being gone for 20 years.
What do you think God is up to in your life right now? He is reminding me that He is always there for me and to rely on Him through prayer.
Tell us about your faith journey. I have been a lifelong Christian. I rededicated myself to study and practice in my early adulthood after being baptized at Wilshire. I have led Sunday School classes for kids and adults over the years but got sidetracked by church membership and friends that were disappointing. Wilshire on Zoom was the jump start I needed for re-engagement.
What’s something interesting most people wouldn’t know about you? I am a massive soccer fan. I hold FC Dallas season tickets and root for Leicester City in the English Premier League. I subscribe to multiple streaming channels to watch league games all over the world.
What strengths describe you? I shoot straight and tell it like it is. I am a student of the stock markets, and I have never missed my children’s sporting events.
