I Am Wilshire 75th Anniversary Special: Charlene Law

What Wilshire has given to me …

A high school group that made me feel welcome. Some are still close friends today. I joined Wilshire in October 1960 with my parents, Charlie and LuFan Watson, and sisters, Evelyn and Mitzi. I was in the ninth grade. In the summer of 1961, the youth trip was to Glorieta, New Mexico, and in 1962 to Ridgecrest, North Carolina.

A church that gave my husband a love of Scripture and the desire to learn more. Bob and I were married in the original chapel in March 1968. We became actively involved in Wilshire’s activities. Sunday School classes at that point were separate for men and women and could not be co-ed. His work took us to Cleveland, Ohio, for five years in the late ’70s.

A loving place to raise kids. We returned to Dallas and chose to rejoin Wilshire. We are parents to Carolyn Murray and Brad Law. Carolyn’s kids, Mason and Lucy Kate, have grown up at Wilshire, were dedicated here as babies and were baptized here.

A place to serve. It didn’t take long to learn seventh grade was not the place. Young adults were a good fit. I’m a Stephen Minister and have been a Sunday School teacher and director. I am currently assistant director of Discovery Class.

A deeper, more meaningful, more realistic view of Scripture. Bruce, George and Timothy have walked me from adolescence to senior living in my understanding of God and the Scriptures.

Preparation for life events. No matter what life presents, I have learned God is ever present and going before me.

The opportunity to walk with several during their last days. What a pleasure to see others prepare to see what is on the other side of the veil.

A deeper relationship with my Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer and Friend, my constant companion. The peace that abides! Thank you, Wilshire.
