Present City: Dallas
Education: BFA Wood from Tennessee Tech
Profession: Fine Furniture Maker

Tell us about your family.
My parents, Chris and Al Stewart, are both members at Wilshire. My twin brother Curtis works the cameras for the church’s livestream. I have two sisters: Isla is pursuing her PhD in art history at Rutgers in New Jersey, and Emery is living and working in Kentucky with her husband, Nate, and their three amazing cats. I have the best cat in the world, kyonosuke (kyo).

How about your work or volunteer life?
I run a fine furniture studio located in Fair Park. I view my craft as part of my faith experience. Wood is unique in that it is the only craft medium that was fully alive, and its grain tells that story if you know how to read it. I think you can learn a great deal about our God from this great material he has made.

Any favorite hobbies?
I love backpacking and got really into it while living in Tennessee for school. Living so close to the Smoky Mountains was the best! I have been taking part in a regular D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) group since 2017, and I love it. I highly recommend.

What are your favorite places to travel?
Pretty much anywhere with mountains and anywhere my family is. I recently had the opportunity to go to Japan for World Wood Day, and I want to go back as soon as possible!

Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
I am part of the Intersection Class, and I currently teach in First Grade Sunday School.

What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
God is telling me to be patient with where I am in life and thankful for the blessings I have in front of me.

Tell us about your faith journey.
I grew up in church but my faith life did not take off until my third attempt at recovery from my addiction to alcohol at the age of 18. As of Sept. 6, 2019, I am six years sober. This recovery journey is not possible without handing the struggle over to God every day.

What is something interesting most people would not know about you?
I am red-green color blind. So when you see my hair dyed red, I see it as pink. Which is my favorite color — whatever I know pink to be. What adjectives best describe you? Fiercely passionate, protective.
