What brought you to Wilshire and when?
My family moved to Lake Highlands in 2018, and the following year, Lucy Kate Murray invited me to Wilshire Student Ministry’s Spring Retreat. From the moment I arrived, I felt loved and welcomed and quickly became part of the youth group. I encouraged my family to visit the church, and from the moment I attended with my family, we all agreed this would be our church home. We began attending regularly and officially joined Wilshire that spring.
Where are you engaged in Wilshire?
This summer, I’m returning as the music ministry intern for the second year. In high school, I actively participated in Wilshire Student Ministry, Youth Choir and Shekinah, which shaped my faith journey. I always look forward to reconnecting with my Wilshire community — it truly feels like home.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
I’m constantly inspired by the congregation’s deep loyalty and commitment to Wilshire. It has been a supportive and strong community to grow up in, and every time I’m at church, I’m reminded of just how many people are in my corner. The love and encouragement I’ve received here have shaped my faith and my life in meaningful ways. I’m also amazed at the number of professional musicians, former music directors, and composers who attend our church. It has been wonderful to share my joy of music with a congregation that so deeply appreciates it.
What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
I’ve spent the past year serving as a choral scholar at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. Having a church home in Oklahoma City reminded me how much I gain from being part of a faith community. I’ve found comfort in the familiar rhythms of worship and music, and I’ve been grateful for the new relationships that have formed there. Whether it’s through singing in a choir, sharing in worship or simply being present with others, I continue to see how God works through people to provide encouragement, growth, and a sense of belonging wherever I go.
