Serve at Wilshire
Find a place to plug in.
Sundays, Wednesdays and every other day of the week, Wilshire members are rolling up their sleeves to do the work of the church inside and outside our building. Serving alongside others, whether on a committee or a one-time project, is one of the best ways to build relationships while building the ministry of the church. Knowing that we all have different availability, skills, desires and needs, we encourage everyone to find a way to connect that is meaningful to them.
Ministry teams
Ministry teams are groups of volunteers dedicated to specific tasks or ministry areas. You can join or leave a ministry team at any time and participate as your schedule permits.
Committees
Committees are more structured, with committee members serving three-year terms. Each committee has nine to 12 members, with a third of them rotating on or off each year. Committee nominations take place each fall, and you can nominate yourself or others to serve.
Adam’s Baskets
Wilshire members support a food pantry with collection of non-perishable food items. Food can be placed in wicker baskets located in the hallways throughout the church. The ministry is in memory of Adam Malcik and coordinated by members of the Compass Class.
Children and Preschool Teachers
A cadre of volunteers make the Bible come to life for preschoolers and children on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings through Sunday School, missions and choir programs. For children’s and preschool ministry, contact Julie Girards. For children’s choir, contact Candy McComb.
Library Volunteers
Wilshire’s excellent library is staffed primarily by volunteers. You can join the team. Contact Librarian Barbara Peterson.
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers are laypeople who complete 50 hours of training to become certified in this ecumenical ministry. Once trained, Stephen Ministers are paired one-on-one with individuals facing times of life crisis, to be listening companions. Contact Linda Garner.
