Minister to Preschoolers Joan Hammons will retire from Wilshire’s staff as of Sunday, Aug. 13. Worship that day will include a time of recognition for Joan, and a reception will be held in James Gallery after the service.
In an email to preschool parents and teachers, Senior Pastor Timothy Peoples wrote that Joan “has shined a light and a true example of the gospel to so many children, and for that we are beyond grateful.”
Joan celebrated her 15th anniversary as preschool minister one year ago. Her husband, David, is a key member of Wilshire’s video team. Joan said, “David and I have both grown throughout our time at Wilshire. We have enjoyed these years and cherish the relationships we’ve built here.”
With Joan’s departure, Minister to Children Julie Girards will assume oversight of preschool ministry while the Personnel Committee, staff and lay leaders determine the most effective staff structure for ministry to families. Parents and others will be able to offer their thoughts through listening sessions held during this intentional time of discernment.
