I Am Wilshire – Vickie Conn Beasley.
Hometown: Sallisaw, Oklahoma
Education: Master of Education
Profession: Middle school life science teacher
Present city: Dallas
Tell us about your family. I am a widow but have four grown children and nine grandchildren who keep me involved in their lives. I have three older siblings that I visit as often as I can.
Tell us about your work or volunteer life. I retired after 23 years of teaching. I loved working with middle school students both in the school setting and in the youth work I was involved in at my former church in Oklahoma. Since I am relatively new to Dallas (5 ½ years), most of my volunteering is at Wilshire.
What are your favorite hobbies? Visiting family around the country and world travel.
Where is your favorite place to travel? I love the Caribbean and Mexico. I have enjoyed many cruises and have been to many countries, so it is hard to pick a favorite.
What brought you to Wilshire and when? I started visiting Wilshire two weeks after I arrived in Dallas. I joined in December of 2017 with my husband, Jim.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire? I attend Foundations of Faith Sunday School Class where I am the community care leader. I also serve on the Hospitality Ministry Team and the Missions Committee. I’m also a member of the New Song Community Choir.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire? That people are so friendly and welcoming. I was invited to lunch by four ladies the first Sunday I visited.
What do you think God is up to in your life right now? I feel God continually shows me that I still have much to learn, much to share and much to give. I want others to know the same joy He gives me every day. I want His light to shine through me in everything I do.
Tell us about your faith journey. I accepted Christ at a very young age. It has been a journey that was not always easy. But I know when I relied on Him, He never disappointed or failed me. He is always faithful.
What’s something interesting most people wouldn’t know about you? I took ballroom dancing classes for several years with my husband, Terry.
What strengths/adjectives describe you? I love meeting new people. I feel God uses my outgoing personality to welcome others and make them feel comfortable. I am grateful, caring, thankful and generous. I am blessed.
