Tell us about your family.
I’m deeply in love with my wife of 44+ years, Candy McComb. Our son Taylor is a sports communication professor at Seton Hall University. He is married to Rachel, a whiz in educational technology. Our son Lee works in development at the UT-Dell Medical School in Austin. We also have Scout, a Wheaten Terrier, who is our branch manager.

How about your work or volunteer life?
I work intensely as a civil trial lawyer. I love the competition and challenge created by my cases, clients and adversaries. I recklessly do pro bono legal work for those who can’t afford a lawyer: from wills, criminal matters, family law, employment, landlord/tenant, etc.

Any favorite hobbies?
Fly fishing, exercise, growing peppers, yard work, golf and traveling.

What are your favorite places to travel?
An impossible question. My top list is, in no particular order, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, Yellowstone, Colorado, Tanzania, Hawaii. Bucket list: Patagonia/Chile and New Zealand.

What brought you to Wilshire and when?
Candy and I were drawn to Wilshire in 2017. We needed to serve in a congregation that appreciated music and actively reached out to rejected people.

Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
I help lead Odyssey Class, formed in October 2017. Odyssey is the most challenging and probably the most rewarding group I have ever led in 30+ years of teaching adult Sunday School.

What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
Jesus is walking through my life with long strides right now — sometimes brusquely, sometimes softly. I’m in his wake, trying to keep up. I’m amazed while I learn how to better follow the footprints of Jesus in my journey and help my fellow travelers.

Tell us about your faith journey.
I grew up in West Texas loved by Baptist parents. My faith was melted, hammered and tempered by a challenging journey through sports, school and, subsequently, marriage, parenthood, law practice, Tanzania and aging parents. God has never abandoned me.

What is something interesting most people would not know about you?
I’m a stroke conqueror. And I can probably beat you in a game of HORSE, if not a game of one-on-one basketball.

What adjectives best describe you?
Competitive, interested, caring, over the top, prideful, windy.
