Tell us about your family.
Mike and I have been married 55 years. Like most couples, there have been good times and some not so good times. But he is my best friend, and that makes it fun. We have a son, Spencer, and a daughter, Katie, who is deceased.
How about your work or volunteer life?
I have volunteered with Crossroads Community Service and the Grief and Loss Center of North Texas. I taught for 22 years, mostly Spanish to 7th, 8th and 9th graders. I loved almost every minute that I taught. The students were so fun and so were the other teachers.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I love to play duplicate bridge.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
We have traveled to Italy, England, Spain, Costa Rica and Budapest.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
We joined Wilshire in 1973 after a search for a progressive Baptist church.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
Mike and I are founding members of Compass Class. I have been on many mission trips, all of which I loved. I traveled as a translator when in Spanish-speaking countries. The mission trips took me to Juarez twice, Brownsville, Laredo, the Dominican Republic, Peru twice and Morocco. In Morocco we helped clean out an old elementary school, which was given to Stephen and Angela Bryant, our CBF missionaries. It became a place where disabled children could receive treatments and rehabilitation. Morocco is a very old country, and some of their beliefs, such as shaming disabled people, are very unkind. If you were a guest in their country, they were very hospitable and kind. It was a Godsend and an education to be able to travel as a helper, and I think I am one blessed and lucky lady.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
I am so thankful for our tolerance and the love we have for each other.
What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
God is walking with me on my faith journey still.
Tell us about your faith journey.
I was saved when I was 9. I have always loved church. My faith grew the most when Katie was on her journey and was so sick.
What’s something interesting most people wouldn’t know about you?
I am bilingual.
What adjectives describe you?
Outgoing, dependable, with a love for people.
