Tell us about your family.
I am married to Cathy Loggins. We have two grown sons, Reagan and Rhys, and a 6-year-old granddaughter, Paisley. Reagan is recently discharged from the Air Force. Rhys is a Pilates instructor and ballet dancer. We have two dogs, Ato and Teddy. Both are AKC Champions.
How about your work or volunteer life?
I work for Banklabs. We have a banking technology platform. I like working with bankers. I was a Boy Scout volunteer leader for almost 30 years. I liked the outdoors programs and watching the boys grow and learn.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I’m a golfer. Cathy and I are college football fans. With three teams playing on Saturday (SMU, Harvard and Cathy’s UT Longhorns), we usually have at least one victory to celebrate. I write short stories; I await acceptance from a major publisher.
What is your favorite place to travel?
Anywhere in Europe and the American West
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
We joined Wilshire on Easter Sunday 1991. We were drawn to Wilshire by the quality of the children’s ministry and the missions focus.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
I teach in Concordia Class. I like the relatively obscure areas of the Bible like the Minor Prophets and Revelation. Interpretation and application of these sorts of topics challenges me. I’m also a member of a small group of believers from a variety of churches that come together each Spring for a silent prayer retreat. I call us the “The Brothers and Sisters of Silence on the Brazos.”
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
Wilshire is a resilient congregation. I think that speaks of our love for the church and each other.
What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
God is constantly unfolding. Beautiful and cryptic texts often jolt me. I’m pondering “like a scarecrow in a field of cucumbers” from Tobit. God always keeps me wondering. I think we’re all wondering what God has in store next for Wilshire.
What’s something interesting most people wouldn’t know about you?
I’ve met and had interesting conversations with some famous people: Joe Biden, John Connally and Oliver Stone. These were mostly accidental meetings.
What adjectives describe you?
Intellectually curious … and well dressed. I love classic men’s fashion. I’m the guy in the hat each Sunday.
