Tell us about your family.
I am the fourth of five children. My husband Dennis and I have been married for 29 years and we have no children. My parents are deceased, my mother-in-law and father-in-law both live with us for health reasons. We have a very large and loving extended family.
Tell us about your work/volunteer life.
I started working with young children in high school. I helped in Sunday School and was a baby sitter. One day in my senior year of high school, I was asked to pick up my 2-year-old cousin from daycare. A light went off in my head. I knew this was something I needed to be a part of. Everything about that center spoke to me. I loved it, and I felt completely connected and at home there … 40 years later, here I am.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I love to garden, cook and craft.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
Our family didn’t do a lot of traveling. The only places we would go were Hobbs, New Mexico, to visit my aunt and Ponca City, Oklahoma, to visit my granddaddy. Now, as an adult, any place I go is my favorite place. I visit Florida often.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
I was brought to Wilshire in April 2021 to help rebuild the Wilshire Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC). The ECLC program has an excellent reputation in this community and among other early childhood professionals in the area. In August of 2021, after being closed for 17 months due to COVID-19, ECLC opened with 30 children. We now have more than 80 children and are building.
What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
When I tell others about how God works in my life, I always talk about belief. I believe that God has a unique path for each of us. Be still and listen to what God is trying to say. Trust, trust in the Lord with all your heart, and trusting that I will not be forsaken, ever. I don’t know what God is up to in my life right now. I know I always feel that I have to be ready for whatever He has in store for me.
