Tell us about your family.
My father was a traveling salesman. He taught his children how to play golf and water ski and encouraged Mom to learn to fly an airplane. My mother was a lifelong office worker. I was delighted to follow in her footsteps with my career. She worked full-time, raised four children and received her single-engine pilot’s license. I am the second of four children; my sisters, Cherie and Micki, and brother, Jacky, live in or near Lubbock. I stay in touch weekly. I met my husband, Bob, a Dallas native and Wilshire member, when he visited a friend in Lubbock. His visit led to our meeting at a church college-night supper. We dated, and a life of conversation began.
How about your work or volunteer life?
I have worked as an office assistant in government, law and private industry.
Any favorite hobbies?
Healthy cooking, exercise, music and reading.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
I heard about Wilshire from my husband, Bob, who was invited to join the youth at Wilshire. Bruce McIver took the time to answer Bob’s faith questions, and Bill James encouraged Bob’s interest in music. I joined Wilshire in 2000 when my mother’s death caused me to return to church.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
Stephen Ministry at Wilshire has enriched my life. I attend Whosoever Wilshire Class, which is fun. It’s a small group of exceptional people. I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to Gateway of Grace. I enjoy the music, the sharing of the Word and the beautiful spaces within and outside the building.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
No surprises — simply a fantastically engaging church.
What is God up to in your life right now?
I have asked God to help me transition into old age.
Tell us about your faith journey.
Living in a dorm at Texas Tech, a fellow student led me from my family’s Lutheran tradition to a Baptist born-again believer tradition. At the Baptist Church near campus, I met Bob, and my life opened to adventure, wonder and fortune.
What is something interesting most people would not know about you?
My father taught me motorcycling; this began a 30-year habit.
What adjectives best describe you?
Difficult to convince; once convinced, you cannot get rid of me.
