Tell us about your family.
I’ve been married to my husband, Phill, for almost 51 years, and we have two married daughters, Lauren Schepp and Andrea Urquidez. Bruce Wayne (a.k.a. batman) Schepp is our one grandson, who lives about five miles from us and keeps us busy and amazed.
How about your work or volunteer life?
I retired two years ago after having a marriage and family therapy private practice in Dallas for almost 25 years. I am choosing to be very intentional about the way I spend my time now and find this a blessing and a gift.
Any favorite hobbies?
I have rediscovered a passion for reading and have fallen in love with audiobooks. You’ll often find me walking in my neighborhood with earbuds listening to a novel. I especially enjoy historical fiction and biographies about interesting people.
What are your favorite places to travel?
I enjoy traveling both in the U.S. and Europe. The Pacific Northwest is one of my favorite U.S. destinations as I am usually delighted to find a place that is cooler in the spring and summer than Dallas. I love traveling in Italy and look forward to exploring Scotland soon.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
I came to Wilshire along with Phill, who had always been on church staffs in the past. After Phill left local church ministry, we visited several denominations and soon realized that Wilshire was our family, our people.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
I have been so pleased with the progressive stance Wilshire continues to take in our community. I love that we are open to all.
What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
Retirement is a new path for me, and God is teaching me so many wonderful lessons as I explore this part of my life journey. There is something new around every corner, and it is exciting.
What are your strengths, or what adjectives best describe you?
As an Enneagram 1, this is a difficult question to answer. I would say I have a keen interest in people and their stories. I listen deeply and find connection with compassion for life experiences.
