Tell us about your family.
I was widowed last July. No children of my own. I just came back from being out of Dallas for several years and am starting to plug back into Wilshire.
Favorite hobbies?
Daydreaming comes to mind. Watching and discussing stories/movies/poetry. I like to discuss ideas about current events. I’m a people watcher but not a celebrity watcher. I enjoy walking, military history and listening to good music.
What are your favorite places to travel?
The Pacific Northwest, specifically Seattle, the Hoh Rain Forest and Butchart Gardens near Victoria, British Columbia.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
I came to Wilshire after realizing I could grow spiritually here. I joined in the fall of 1997, I think.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
I attend Foundations of Faith Class. I’m also a greeter, and I help with the worship livestream as part of the Video Ministry Team.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
The consistency with which Wilshire has been able to evolve spiritually at an almost doctorial level. I think Jesus wants to give us all a big hug (most of the time).
What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
I’m being reinvented for something.
Tell us about your faith journey.
I was invited to a Missionary Baptist church and walked the aisle at 17 without family support. God has been working on me to become more like Jesus ever since. Love is always the answer to life’s questions; the type of love depends on the type of question. I would very much like to say that today at Wilshire we not only stand on the shoulders of past spiritual giants, but we also live among them.
What’s something interesting most people wouldn’t know about you?
I graduated from art school — creating logos and writing copy, not drawing wonderful pictures. I love good stories, whether in a book, play or on screen. I analyze ideas and assumptions until they completely reveal themselves (if that’s possible). I only like coffee in hot chocolate, and I have never had a beer. The poll is still out on whether I can dance.
What adjectives best describe you?
Well, like most people, I can shock you in some background way and surprise you about how silly I can become.
