Tell us about your work.
For 26 years my family has operated a restoration service business, cleaning buildings after water and fire damage losses for commercial clients. We also provide specialized environmental and air quality testing.
How about your family?
The love of my life for 34 years was Shelly Kay Miller. We married in 1989 and raised two daughters. Our older daughter, Sarah, married Cameron Wright and is the mother of Colton, 5, and Weston, 3. They live in Argyle. Our younger daughter, Madison, is engaged to be married to Jon-Luc and lives in Lewisville. Both daughters live 15 to 30 minutes away from Justin. Colton and Weston’s Nana Shelly went home to live with Jesus on Sept. 25, 2023.
What are your hobbies?
American history and classic literature interest me. I’ll read anything authors H.W. Brands or Jon Meacham write, and I have read Shakespeare’s Macbeth again. I am drawn to Isaiah. Sermons by John Claypool are worth rereading.
What are your favorite places to travel?
I hope to take my grandsons to Europe and other foreign destinations so they can experience other cultures and develop a love for experiencing God everywhere.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
Great preaching, wonderful organ pieces and a congregation who truly cares about and engages in social justice were the reasons Shelly and I joined during COVID in summer 2020. We felt at home even though we were members from a distance due to Shelly’s illness.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
I’m a member of Compass Class and the Christian Advocacy Committee. I’m part of the Wilshire team that went to Puerto Rico in February.
Tell us about your faith journey.
At age 9 I asked Jesus into my heart. Reliance on Christ developed during high school. I discovered walks at night to be meditative and soul renewing. I’ve found Jesus to be a true friend and our Heavenly Father to be gracious and generous. The greatest gifts have been my wife, daughters, their families and friends at Wilshire. Bringing honor to these bestowed gifts is life for me.
What’s something interesting most people would not know about you?
I’m engaged in city government and serve as chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission in Justin. I volunteer during election seasons and have found public service rewarding. In 1975, I met actor Roy Rogers while he was filming the movie “Mackintosh and T.J.” on the Four Sixes Ranch near Guthrie, a few miles south of my hometown.
