Tell us about your work or volunteer life.
I am currently working my dream job with T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital, a part of Baylor University Medical Center. Aside from my regular shifts, I am also completing a hospital-wide project to decrease infection occurrences with oncology patients, and I teach introductory material to new or onboarding nurses regarding oncology. I also volunteer with Baylor Scott & White’s outpatient cancer services, East Lake Pet Orphanage and Baylor University.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I love playing the oboe! I also love going to the gym, riding my bike, volunteering, reading in coffee shops and spending quality time with my friends.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
I accidentally stumbled upon Wilshire during one of the worst periods in my life. I’d been desperately looking for a new place to connect with others, and I was having a difficult time finding a place that offered services not just strictly on Sundays, since I work primarily weekends. I saw the sign “Come on a Sunday. Come on a Wednesday. But above all, come as you are” outside, and I randomly showed up one Wednesday Night Live. I knew God wanted me here when I saw Monica Mullins, my former advisor at Baylor University, and I instantly burst into tears.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
I am an active member with Wilshire Winds and Ithaka Class, but I’m always looking for new ways to get involved.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
The fact that everyone here is just genuinely that nice. Everyone here really cares about one another, and the kindness never feels like it’s forced or disingenuous. People can love me exactly as I am, regardless of my past.
What do you think God is up to in your life right now?
I’m not sure, but God’s got a great sense of humor …
What is something interesting most people would not know about you?
I used to be really shy! Being a nurse has forced me to learn how to talk to anyone and everyone. Now I can hold a conversation with a brick wall.
What adjectives best describe you?
Brave, fiercely loyal, genuine, overprotective.
