Tell us about your family.
The love-of-my-life husband, my younger daughter and my granddaughter have passed — it’s just me and my older daughter, Wilshire member Bettye Collins.
How about your work or volunteer life?
I volunteered at White Rock Center of Hope for over 10 years and retired when I could no longer drive.
Any favorite hobbies?
I used to do needlework and oil painting. I have several of my art pieces on the walls in my apartment at Walnut Place.
What are your favorite places to travel?
My husband and I traveled in Europe, Hawaii and even Bali. The Island of Kahului is my favorite.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
After my husband died, I moved to Dallas. I visited a “sister church in the city,” but found a home in the Charlie’s Angels Class at Wilshire.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
I live in an assisted living facility and am unable to attend, and I’m too old to understand the Internet! I participate in the Communion service offered by Wilshire on the first Saturday of each month at the Landon.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
It’s a warm and welcoming place for everyone!
What do you think God is up to in your life now?
God is very good to me. He’s kept me alive and fairly healthy for almost 101 years. But I’m ready to go home when God calls.
Tell us about your faith journey.
As a child I walked to church and would meet friends along the way. We walked to Last Chance Assembly of God Church because it was another three miles to the Baptist church. I married and moved to Harrisburg, Arkansas, where we attended First Baptist. I was a teacher, head of the Junior Department, head of Vacation Bible School for two years and a member of the WMU. My younger brother was a Southern Baptist minister until his death in 1992.
What is something interesting most people would not know about you?
When in Russia, I was walked to my room by a Russian soldier!
What adjectives best describe you?
Stubborn and worrisome!
