Guns to Gardens firearm disposal event
Wilshire is co-hosting a “Guns to Gardens” safe disposal event on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration (14115 Hillcrest). This is an opportunity for anyone with unwanted firearms in their households to safely dispose of them. Each gun will be used to create garden tools that the participant will receive at a later date. Guns to Gardens is a national movement working to reduce gun violence, and Wilshire is among several churches forming a local chapter.
— Weapon donation is anonymous.
— Bring your unloaded gun in trunk or rear of vehicle. No ammunition will be accepted.
— Guns will be inspected by safety officer and then disabled with a chop saw.
— Pieces will be forged into tools, art, jewelry at a later date.
Supported by faith groups concerned about gun violence. In cooperation with RAWtools and Presbyterian Faith Fellowship. Churches include Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, NorthPark Presbyterian, Wilshire, Royal Lane Baptist, St. Luke UMC, Temple Shalom, Faith United Presbyterian.
