Faith in 3D: Songs of the People

Wednesday, March 4, 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 7, 2:30 p.m.

Wilshire’s Faith in 3D team will present Songs of the People: Life’s Lessons from Folk Songs on March 4 and 7 in the Sanctuary.

The free show is an original creation using a wide array of existing songs — from the lighthearted to the intense, the obvious to the symbolic, the personal to the universal, and the secular to the sacred. Some songs will be familiar (“Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Big Yellow Taxi,” “We Shall Overcome”), while others will be new to most ears.

The cast includes 36 Wilshire performers of all ages. Nancy Poynter and Ralph Manuel return for this year’s production as director and musical director, respectively, with musical help from Jeff Brummel, Darren DeMent, Ariel Merivil and Amy Pottkotter.

The 3D in Faith in 3D stands for drama, dialogue and dessert. Katie Murray will lead this year’s post-show discussion, and dessert will be available. Songs of the People will be Wilshire’s twelfth annual Faith in 3D production.

• On Wednesday, Faith in 3D will take the place of regular faith formation programming; youth and children are encouraged to attend the show, and childcare will be offered for preschoolers. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. as usual.

• The Saturday show will be livestreamed on our YouTube channel but will not be available to watch after the stream. No childcare will be offered for the Saturday performance.
