Tell us about your family.
My wife Candy passed away in 2012, shortly after our 40th anniversary. Over the years we were blessed with the birth of a son, Matthew, and twin daughters, Cindy and Becky. Matt married Mariya and they live in Jersey City, New Jersey, with our amazing grandchildren, Ruby, Candace and Aaron. Matt has two Tex-Mex restaurants in Manhattan. My daughters live in Tulsa, where Cindy is co-owner of a home decoration business and Becky is in private practice of family law and runs an investment company.
How about your work or volunteer life?
I worked for Texas Instruments for 39 years before retiring in 1998. Since then, I have been active with the TI Alumni Association and its community volunteer projects. I helped start computer classes at Wilshire for senior adults. I also spent 21 years in military service, active and reserve, largely with U.S. Naval Construction Battalion 22 — the Seabees.
What are your favorite hobbies?
Working on computers, family history and travel.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
I joined Wilshire in December 1959, soon after coming to Dallas to work. A friend at TI told me about the church. Soon after joining, I was in the choir, directed by Bill O’Brien. It was here that I met my future wife, Candy.
Where are you engaged in Wilshire?
I serve as treasurer of the Open Bible Class, as a deacon emeritus and as co-chair of the History Committee. For many years, I have taught computer classes for seniors and assisted with tech support.
Tell us about your faith journey.
In my early years I attended small Baptist churches before accepting Christ and being baptized at a revival. My faith deepened in college with participation in the Baptist Student Union. Our family has been blessed at Wilshire throughout the ministry of our two pastors, Bruce and George.
What’s something interesting most people wouldn’t know about you?
We were married by Bruce in the living room of Candy’s house. TI was sending me to England and we had to be there in a month. We enjoyed living near London for more than two and a half years before returning to Dallas.
What adjectives describe you?
Active, curious, desire to help, wordy.
