Starting in mid-September, the Wilshire Library will be temporarily closed for the installation of state-of-the-art steel shelving donated from Central Baptist Theological Seminary.
Librarian Barbara Peterson explained that the Shawnee, Kansas, seminary was looking to donate the shelving as it moves to an online library model. Thanks to three WIlshire members on Central’s board of directors — Gail Ashby, Dawn Hallman and Helen Moore-Montgomery — Wilshire became the lucky recipient.
In July, a Wilshire team including Barbara, Steven Hallman, Mike Diffee and several of Barbara’s family members dismantled the shelves in Kansas and loaded them into a storage pod that has now made its way to Dallas.
The new shelving will be safer and more secure, and the library will be somewhat reconfigured to make the space compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Library’s book racks in the third floor coffee bar and near the Preschool Hall will remain operational during the renovations, and Barbara hopes to open a small temporary location.
Volunteers are needed on Saturday, Sept. 14, to help box up books and move them to a classroom for storage. To learn more or volunteer, contact Barbara. Barbara also needs boxes to be donated. Boxes can be brought to the Library between now and Sept. 14.
