Tell us about your family.
John and I have been married 52 years. We have two sons. Ryan is married to Shannon. They have a son, Desmond. Andrew is married to Niusha. They have two children, Lucas and Layla.
How about your work?
I have been a Realtor for several decades, and now I sell homes to my clients’ kids! I served nine years on the Richardson ISD Board of Trustees, seven as president. My parents spent their lives working in public schools, and I learned early how important public schools are. I served as executive director of Raise Your Hand Texas, a public education advocacy group for business CEOs, and as ED of Parents for Public Schools, a national advocacy group. In 1998, I founded Realtors Supporting Richardson Schools, and I currently serve as president.
Any favorite hobbies?
I enjoy cooking, gardening and traveling. John and I have spent time in Costa Rica, which has involved owning a farm there. We lived in Germany for four years when he was in the U.S. Army. We love going back to Europe and have been visiting countries we missed when we lived there. Last fall we traveled to Portugal. Soon we hope to visit Croatia. And we enjoy traveling with our kids and grandkids.
What brought you to Wilshire and when?
We were members briefly in the late 1990s before living out of state for a few years. We rejoined in 2022. Wilshire is the kind of church we were looking for, allowing us to remain Baptist.
Where are you engaged at Wilshire?
I served on the Minister of Music Search Committee that recommended Ariel, and I am thrilled he is here. I serve on the Christian Advocacy Committee, the Hospitality Ministry Team and the Lord’s Supper Ministry Team. I really enjoyed working in Vacation Bible School this summer and teach in 2nd grade Sunday School.
What has surprised you most about Wilshire?
How fully the church embraces and loves all of God’s people and how secure the church is in that love. I think God is teaching me that, unlike what I thought in earlier years, I don’t have all the answers to my questions and that I just have to trust God. I was raised by parents who lived their faith in incredible ways and blessed me by doing that. My faith continues to take me through life.
What adjectives best describe you?
Energetic, tenacious, hopeful.
